Tonight’s show opens with the Canadian government sending violent police to illegally arrest press and Native land-rights activists protesting a fossil fuel pipeline. Police helicopters and tanks are doing this in the middle of a deadly flood that cut the whole region of millions of people off from the rest of Canada. Flooding damage was caused by clearcutting forests, which the government is arresting people for protesting too. [The accordion media views this all rather dimly.] Unbelievable. Do what you can to stop them. We talked about this in not one but two episodes just a couple of months ago too!

This summer’s Accordion Noir Festival videostream, featuring not only performances from our concert on Sept 11th, but other local squeezy acts documented through the summer of 2021 (largely in conjunction with Maclean Park Music) is broadcasting this Saturday, Nov 27th, starting at Noon. The featured artists from our concert are Geoff Berner, Ana Bon-Bon, and the Last Minute Trio, but other ensembles represented include Sospiro Misterioso, Teapot in the Tuba, the Vancouver Folk Orchestra, the Vancouver Squeezebox Circle, and the Gram Partisans.

Tonight’s playlist looks at many of them as an audio-only preview (pre-hear?), but a spotlight is cast on Vancouver’s Yiddish punk super-hero Geoff Berner, our patron saint, who is celebrating his 50th birthday with an online fundraiser show streaming live on Saturday Nov 27 (after our canned stream wraps), raising money for community food programs: Geoff Berner’s 50th Birthday Benefit Bash – Livestream Sat Nov. 27 7PM PST
