Accordion Noir radio playlist 2010-06-02: Sex-Toys and Accordion Repairs

June 9, 2020

From ten years ago, here’s episode 181 of the weekly Accordion Noir alt-accordion radio broadcast, featuring … well, there seems to be only one common element running through the wildly diverse songs in the playlist, and it pushes air past metal reeds with a bellows.  I cannot find any tie-in for the lurid title Bruce gave this recording (hoping perhaps for a slice of the SEO virality of our “Pirates, Porn and Dick Contino” episode), but perhaps it comes up in the between-song banter.  At its original online home it achieved a total of some 6195 listens, but you can enjoy listening to it going forward courtesy of the Internet Archive.  Here’s its playlist:

AccNoir-2010-06-02, Sex-Toys and Accordion Repairs
(Sorry, I couldn’t resist that title, it was too silly. Watch the search engines turn over for this one. I guess we pander when we can.)

*Artist – Song – Album (year) – Where are they from? – Contact info if we’ve got it.
* Intro with the folks from SoundScape (the avant-garde show before our new Wednesday time.) I don’t know the name of their piece, but it’s layered with:
* Hell’s Bellows (w/ Eli Kaufman) – Dreamland (improvised) – Mantici Infernali (year?) – Seattle, Washington, USA –
* Andy Fielding – Accordion Noir theme (short version, 1:06) – Accordion Noir (2010) – Vancouver, BC, Canada – recorded special just for our show! More,
* The Zydepunks – Papirossen In Gan Eden – Finisterre (2008) – New Orleans, Louisiana, USA –
* I.K. Dairo M.B.E. (Isaiah Kehinde Dairo) & His Blue Spots – Mo Sorire (I Have Been Blessed) – Ashiko (2006) – Nigeria, West Africa –
* Regina Carter – N’Teri – Regina Carter – Reverse Thread (2010) – New York, New York, USA –
* Kiran Ahluwalia – Vo Kuch – Mission Folkmusic Festival 2008 (promo CD) – India, Canada – (uh oh, that’s a harmonium, not an accordion. I could have saved it for our “Harmonium, harmonica, melodion” special.)
* Carré Manchot & AKIYO KA – MAWSEL – Liyännäj (2003) – Bretagne, France –
* Turab – Khilqa – Hada Leil (2006) – Palestine – Mohamed Quttati- Accordion

* Carnivaleros – Fools And Angels – Lost In The Graveyard (2006) – Tucson, AZ USA –
* Friendly Rich and the Lollipop People – Maybe Tomorrow – Dinosaur Power (2008) – Ontario, Canada –
* father daughter Johnny and Eleena Qiyuktak (“QK”ay-yout’-tack) (Eleena was 12 yrs old at the time) – Track 7 (we don’t have titles, maybe you can help?) – Pangnirtung Music Festival 1999 disk 1 (1999) – Nunavut, Canada – From David Idoris Boileau (who made the recordings). Note: “The combined ‘QK’ sounds like the ‘ch; in ‘ACHMED.'”,_Nunavut

This episode’s cover is: The Salt and Pepper Pigs! For sale on ebay if you want to order them for my birthday (oh, you missed it last week.) If anyone actually were to do such a thing, I will give a $100 donation to Co-op Radio. (Let me know if that’s unethical.)

Check for Vancouver-area shows and squeezing!
