Accordion Crimes episode #4 – Jim Boyer – freak mountain ramblers

March 20, 2023

The gap in our archives for the period circa a decade ago persists for a while, which deprives us of an opportunity to share you old episodes of Accordion Noir radio, but which (glass half full!) gives us an opportunity to share with you instead the extinguished episodes of Mike Danner’s “Accordion Crimes” podcast from the 2000s, available nowhere else. The show’s format is that the host, Mike Danner, would jam on his accordion in accompaniment to distinguished then-local songwriters he would interview. In this installment of his program, he interviewed a key member of Portland, Oregon’s “Freak Mountain Ramblers”, the late Jimmy Boyer, who died back in 2016. The ensemble hasn’t quite ground to a halt yet, logging gigs as recent as last year on their Facebook group, but definitely its trajectory is now pointed in a different direction than it was when this interview was recorded back in 2005.

Accordion Crimes Radio is a web-based music show hosted by the singing and accordion-playing Mike Danner. With each episode Mike sits down with a different guest; they record a batch of songs, have a chat, and invite you to listen in on the fun.
