Given the US Supreme Court’s recent throwing Roe vs. Wade into jeopardy, Bruce has decided to celebrate his imminent birthday by taking a stand (with accordion music, as is his style), and letting the world know that we celebrate abortion rights. Accordionically. It’s a difficult theme to coax out of the material we have to work with, but he went and shook down some of his favorite women accordionists for relevant tunes to include in this week’s episode, so we hope you enjoy their guest curation!

If your Apple or Android (or plain old RSS) podcast subscriptions (strongly recommended!) haven’t alerted you to this unique episode’s availability yet, you can enjoy listening to it as digital audio courtesy of the Internet Archive. Here’s its playlist:

This episode is inspired by our #AccordionTwitter friend Rebecca Lentjes, formerly known as ‘the abortion musicologist.’ https://twitter.com/rsl318

“Sonic Patriarchy and Anti-Abortion Harassment” is part of her work contesting the environment of intimidation surrounding abortion clinics in the US.

From Bruce: I missed mentioning on the air that this weekend is my 54th birthday. Please donate to share good wishes. 🎂

Renee de la Prade suggested we include an accordion version of Alanis Morissette’s “You Oughta Know” in this playlist, but the only one we were able to find was my own, somewhat goofy, Stupid Accordion Tricks version recorded last year to commemorate the transition of IWD March into April Fool’s Day. I don’t believe it worked its way into this episode, so I’ll tack it to the bottom of this playlist instead. Enjoy!

Thanks for reading us here (and hopefully listening to us, there), but if you find you want more, you can always keep up with us on Twitter (@AccordionNoir and @AccordionBruce), Instagram (@AccordionNoirFest), and Facebook at Accordion Noir fansthe Accordion Noir Festival, and the Vancouver Squeezebox Circle (meeting in-person at the new Commercial Drive Spartacus Books location next week!) Cheers & squeeze on!
