Accordion Noir radio playlist 2011-12-14: Rowan’s faves of 2011
From ten years ago, here’s an archival episode of CFRO Co-Op Community Radio’s weekly hour-long Accordion Noir broadcast, featuring alt-squeezebox music in every style from every part of the planet! Earlier on in our run, we would devote December to year-in-review programming. Specifically I, the behind-the-scenes co-host Rowan, would re-listen to the 50-odd hours of programming we had shared thus far that year and skim my favorite tunes from that selection, to present you at year’s end with a creme-de-la-creme playlist. When I first got trained for radio at CiTR, they advised us to expect to spend three hours of preparation for every hour you plan to be live on the air… but for these specials, I took that ratio to ridiculous extremes. (I would begin my “year-in-review” listening sometime around August. As December approached, episodes would be running non-stop in my house.) And so, yes! This recording represents my favorites of everything we aired in the calendar year of 2011. Because WordPress burped on my longago pre-prepared introductory spiel here, I can’t tell you how many listens the episode achieved at its original online home (the rule of thumb is: quite a bit fewer than Bruce’s “best of” episode a week or two later, but I can’t begrudge him, he puts in the work!), but you can continue enjoying it today and into the future as digital audio courtesy of the Internet Archive. Here’s its playlist:
