COVID massively impacted the music community, and musicians lost almost all touring income. Since (most) streaming services were already draining the income of independent artists, this was devastating. Then Bandcamp stepped in with what became a regular #BandcampFriday on the first week of every month beginning in 2020 and continuing through 2021. Artists have earned over $61 million dollars on just those Fridays. Bandcamp pays 80% of proceeds every day to the makers of the records, so it’s a good place to get music all year long as well.
