From ten years ago (give or take a few weeks, which as the blurb below reveals, was very in keeping with our somewhat lackadaisical podcast updating schedule at that time — by which standard we’re actually ahead of the curve now!), here’s episode 229 of CFRO Co-Op Community Radio’s weekly hour-long Accordion Noir program.  At its original online home it logged some 5053 listens, and  you can continue enjoying it as digital audio today courtesy of the Internet Archive.  Here’s its playlist:

AccNoir-2011-04-27, Almost May Day (now that it’s June)

(great deals on apologies here at Accordion Noir for how behind we’ve been on putting these shows up [ten years ago]. I’m afraid we’re faced with a deluge to catch up now. It’s been busy, but Rowan’s back from Europe and Bruce’s kids are out of town, so we should be posting like mad and overwhelming our podcast listeners. Save these up for a rainy day if you like.)

(also, sorry about the distortion on this show. The sound-levels weren’t working properly, or I wasn’t working them right. Either way, sorry.)

* Artist – Song – Album (year) – Where are they from? – Contact info if we’ve got it.
* I couldn’t resist the bit of Quentin Crisp from the tail end of our preceding Soundscapes show. If you want more, search for “In any way that required effort or style,” or some such. I hadn’t heard that in years. I think it’s from here:
* Miss Murgatroid & Petra Haden – Sleeper – Hearts and Daggers (2008) – Portland, Oregon / Los Angeles, California, USA – (sadly distorted, my fault, levels too high.)
* The Walking Hellos – Kindly Advice for the Terminally Shy – The Walking Hellos (2006) – Brooklyn, New York (USA) –
* BU☆LI – キャトルドッグ Cattle Dog – Shining☆Buli (2001) – Sapporo City, Japan –
* Miss Murgatroid – No Noise – Through Alien Empires (1997) – Portland, Oregon, USA – recorded 1995
* Chris Sherburn & Danny Bartley – The Moving On Song, Lafferty’s Favourite, The Lads Of Laoise – Last Night’s Fun (1995) – Leeds, West Yorkshire, England (orig. W. Ireland or so.) – Chris Sherburn, anglo concertina. reviewed:
* Kate Maki – Boredom Blues – Moonshine (2011) – Sudbury, Ontario, Canada –
* Hank Penny – Politics – Hank Penny – Hillbilly Be-Bop (1944-1950) –
* Calexico – Across The Wire – Feast Of Wire (2003) – Tucson, Arizona, USA –
* Blackbird Raum – Germinal – Swidden (2008) – Santa Cruz, California, USA –
* Flying Folk Army – Professional Protester (swearing at end) – Massive Folk Fist To The Man – Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada –
* Bellowhead – One May Morning Early – Burlesque (2006) – UK –
* Gato Libre – In Glasgow, In May – NOMAD (2006) – Japan –
* Ron Mason – Jack’s Wheels – Move The Earth (2009) – Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada –
* Zeek Manners and His Gang – Easy Payment Blues – The Golden Age of Zeke Manners –
* Sagapool – Hot-dog élégant (feat. les Machines) – Épisode Trois (2008) – Quebec, Canada –
* Bob Skyles & His Skyrockets – Shake Up Your Gourd Seeds – Bob Skyles & His Skyrockets 1937-1940 – Pecos, Texas, USA –
* Amoebic Ensemble – Mayday In the Tunnel – Limbic Rage – Providence, Rhode Island, USA (Home of HP Lovecraft!) –

Happy spring-time, and please, support Accordion Noir and Co-op Radio (without whom there wouldn’t be an Accordion Noir), by becoming a member. Go to or and donate online. We really especially supporters who’ve become “sustaining” donors by arranging to donate a little bit every month. Those add up to a lot of support over the year. We love that most of all.

When you’re able to donate, please do add a comment that, “Accordion Noir sent me!” Then we know who loves squeezing.

Thanks much,

Bruce and Rowan
