Accordion Noir radio playlist 2021-03-10: Internationally Women

March 10, 2021
AccNoir 2021-03-10

Our weekly alt-squeezebox Accordion Noir radio program doesn’t always land on International Women’s Day, but we almost always, always, make the effort to devote a nearby episode to the occasion. This week’s was no different, featuring squeezebox performances by powerful women from all over, especially leaning toward the Celtic as if anticipating next week’s celebration of St. Patrick’s Day. If your Apple or Android podcast subscriptions (strongly recommended!) haven’t alerted you to its availability yet, you can enjoy listening to it as digital audio courtesy of the Internet Archive. Here’s its playlist:

Playlist upgrade! Now with quotes around “songs”
(New script prints slightly more satisfying playlists.)

I mentioned Lou Ottens (who invented the audio cassette) when I introduced the Alice Hall track, which I played in his honor from a cassette

Here’s a link to a report on his life:

The Tape Stopped: Lou Ottens, June 21, 1926 to March 9, 2021

And since he was born in Amsterdam here’s a nice video about the 50th anniversary of the cassette (in Dutch)

Thanks for reading us here (and hopefully listening to us, there), but if you find you want more, you can always keep up with us on Twitter (@AccordionNoir and @AccordionBruce), Instagram (@AccordionNoirFest), and Facebook at Accordion Noir fansthe Accordion Noir Festival, and the Vancouver Squeezebox Circle. Cheers & squeeze on!
