Accordion Noir 2021-02-24: Purim In The House

The train of thought travelled through a few stations to get here, but Bruce figured that as Socalled had donated to support songwriter Rae Spoon (who is doing poorly, and needs your help urgently), it could be framed as a celebration of the imminent Jewish holiday of Purim, apparently characterised by doing good and charitable deeds.
[Bruce interrupts Rowan’s intro: The theme went the other way around. SoCalled‘s Purim song came out on bandcamp last week, so I grabbed it for the playlist. Then, Yiddish Glory mentioned they have the Purim number on their Lost Sings of World War II record. So I got that from BCamp too. As I was talking on-mic about all of them I remembered hearing about (and making a donation to) Rae (a close friend of SoCalled and Geoff Berner). I had, of course, just done in-depth “glance at Wikipedia while the song is playing” research into Purim traditions. So I knew about giving gifts and charitable deeds (I’m not Jewish, but celebrate all the accordion holidays). While talking, I realized we should dedicate the show to raising some funds for them. Thank goodness for the podcast so we can set the records straight and give links. So here again is how to support Rae, with our love 😻🪗.]
Anyhow, one thing led to another, and … hence the playlist you see below for CFRO’s weekly hour-long Accordion Noir radio broadcast. It’s all still great accordion music representing a wild plethora of styles and genres (hat tip to Anton Van Oosbree commemorating the retirement of Daft Punk by taking one an accordion arrangement of one of their distinct tunes in our episode’s opening number!) If your Apple or Android podcast subscriptions (strongly recommended!) haven’t alerted you to its availability yet, you can listen to it as digital audio courtesy of the Internet Archive.
