Accordion Noir 2021-02-10: Forere Motloheloa and the Squeeze Goes On

AccNoir 2021-02-10

As the vanguard of the world accordion beat, we are among the first to learn of exciting new developments in our field… and, sadly, also to be the bearers of bad news. Sadly, it falls to us today to announce the death of Forere Motloheloa, most widely heard squeezing the distinctive accordion riff driving “The Boy In The Bubble” from Paul Simon’s controversial 1986 album Graceland. We didn’t have enough notice to plan an entire episode around squashbox township jive (but our old “Accordion Africa” special is always worth revisiting), but Bruce was able to come up with a couple of his tracks from his band Tau Ea Matsekha to bookend tonight’s episode of eclectic accordion hits with. If your Apple or Android podcast subscriptions (strongly recommended!) haven’t alerted you to its availability yet, you can hear tonight’s episode as digital audio courtesy of the Internet Archive. Here’s its playlist:

Cheers & squeeze on!
