Now that we’ve gotten through festival season, the member drive and the CFRO AGM, Bruce is free to open up and speak his mind on current events, whether they be accordion-related or otherwise. (As a squeezebox historian, if pressed, he will likely be able to come up with an accordion connection of some kind to virtually any topic.) Also, he plays a heck of a lot of accordion music! If you’re not already hooked up via your Apple or Google Play podcast subscription, you can listen to this week’s episode courtesy of the Internet Archive. Here’s its playlist:

* Bill Mankiss – Redwing – Crooked Stovep…  (Union Maid) – Bill Mankiss Accordion Swing (0) – Canada –
* Clifton Chenier – I Want To Be Your Driver – Frenchin’ The Boogie (1976) – Bogalusa, Louisiana, USA –
* Trio Huracan – Corrido De Los Camioneros (Song of the Bus Drivers) – Squeeze Play-World Accordion (1938) – San Antonio, Texas, USA –

* Sweatshop Tango Ensemble – El Marne – De La Main À La Boca (2006) – Victoria, British Columbia, Canada – Jonathan Goldman, acc.
* Java  – Le Metro –  France – I wish I knew where to get more tunes by this group! Anybody know where they’re at? (Bruce, this came up during our accordion hip-hop episode. Go to Youtube. They are there.)
* Angel Corpus Christi – Nature Girl – White Courtesy Phone (1995) – New York / California –
* Fire Lily – The Bus Stop Song – Where The Fire Lily Grows (2002) – Canada
* Vishtèn – Shetland’s Magical Bus – Mosaïk (2012) – Acadia; Prince Edward Island; Quebec, Canada –

    Anybody interested in why a #StrawBan is a destructive/discriminatory/distraction can read my friend Gabrielle’s post “Accessibility Or Luxury?” here (with my letter to the Vancouver City Council below):

      Sorry if I sounded a little glib, I wanted to get the write-up done before midnight but hadn’t had a chance to listen to the whole episode yet.

      (Did spend quite a bit of time unsuccessfully looking for a picture of someone drinking out of an accordion-shaped drinking vessel with a straw, however 8)

        Dawns on me that every bendy straw visually fulfills our accordion content mandate. So my Vancouver City Council #StrawBan rant is on topic!

        I love the accordion bus picture!
        Because the show was supposed to be applauding the transit workers not needing to go on strike, but the Vancouver city Council interrupted that positive story with their discrimination.
        Like you say we manage to fit all kinds of current events into our niche music programming but we prefer to have good things to report rather than bad like this vote.
