There’s an accordion festival coming to the area. I know what you’re thinking — but it’s not ours! (Ours is also coming, one week later. What I mean is… it’s not only ours.) For years BC’s pleasant capital of Victoria has offered up their perfectly pleasant Accordions By The Sea festival on an annual basis, but now that Jelena and Alex Milojevic are fully settled there, they have injected it with a steroid booster, transforming it into the World Accordion and Tango Festival, starting… well, last night, and running through this weekend! Not only is it turning Victoria into a Mecca of world-class accordion performance (and world-class accordion scholarship — Bruce is doing a reading there from his book Accordion Revolution!), but it is also producing a few events across the water here in Vancouver this weekend as well! You can check out its schedule here for a sampling of its not-to-be-missed programming.

This week’s hour-long episode of Accordion Noir radio focuses on these nearby events. If for some reason you’re not yet getting notified of new episodes through your Apple or Google podcast subscriptions, you can enjoy listening to last night’s episode courtesy of the Internet Archive.
