Accordion Noir radio playlist 2019-02-27: Fool’s Spring and Deep Roots

AccNoir 2019-02-27

Last night’s episode of Accordion Noir radio was full of the usual mix, spanning continents and genres like it was nothing.  That’s just part of our patented formula for success!  If you listen carefully you might hear an extraordinary sound — our host Bruce tickling (or is that torturing?) the ivories a little.  In any case, you can now find the episode up available for online listeners as digital audio, and here’s its playlist!

AccNoir-2019-02-27, Fool’s Spring and Deep Roots

(Fool’s Spring because it’s unseasonably warm here in Vancouver, but still cold out for the thousand people sleeping on the street tonight. And Deep Roots, because it’s not all foolishness.)

(Spot the two songs with no accordion tonight! Contact @AccordionBruce on twitter to claim your Accordion Noir sticker prize!)

* Black Prairie – Red Rocking Chair – Feast Of The Hunters’ Moon (2010) – Portland, Oregon, USA –
* Rhiannon Giddens – Rhiannon Giddens stinger 100.5 – Vancouver Folk Festival 2017 Interviews (2017) – North Carolina, USA –
* Our Native Daughters – Black Myself – Songs of Our Native Daughters (2019) – USA – Dirk Powell, acc.
* Sam Brothers 5 – SAM (Get Down) – SAM (Get Down!) (1979) – Scott, Louisiana, USA –
* Eleni Karaindrou – Waltz By The River – Dust Of Time (2009) – Greece –
* Meg Carsience and Bruce Triggs – Resurrection-Renewal – (2019) – Vancouver, BC, Canada – I played the noises, Meg edited them up right. Check her fab experimental photography that looks like this sounds:
* Franco & OK Jazz with Camille Feruzi – Likambo Ya Ngana – Congo Accordeon (1972) – Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Central Africa – (From Jared Snyder) Camille Feruzi, acc. An early Congolese star, got lost in the rush fifteen years earlier, largely because his instrument had become unfashionable.
* Tony Murena / Orchestre Colombo – Caprice musette – 50 ans d’accordéon 109 grands succès (disque 2) – France – “Valses musette l’age classique”
* Swift Jewel Cowboys – Rose Room – from Kevin Coffey’s collection (1939) – Memphis, Tennesee, USA – (Clifford “Kokomo” Crocker, acc. Did he record after the 30’s?)
