Accordion Noir radio playlist 2008-11-28: the Night of a Thousand Buttons

November 26, 2018

Today from the Accordion Noir Classic vaults, here’s episode #104…. it’s a special one!  It features audio recorded (live off the board?) at the Jan 25th, 2008 “Night of 1000 Buttons” concert at the Railway Club ten months prior… presaging our own first annual Accordion Noir Festival in that room (and with that Geoff Berner headlining, speaking of which, happy birthday, you mensch!) later that year.  It was a barn-burner of a line-up, a Pacific Northwest who’s who of alt-accordion, with Geoff supported by Jason Webley and Ana Bon-bon, and you get to hear selections from it in this episode!  Snippets of audio from the concert surface in other episodes, but awareness that this episode was only an hour long and the concert was … quite a bit longer, gives me hope that there may be further never-aired footage from the performance we might be able to exhume and treat you with.  I should set Bruce on that… after his book is out.

At its original online home, this recording clocked an outrageous (and yet, wholly justified) 13562 listens — you can just go to the Internet Archive to hear for yourself what it would have sounded like to be a fly on the wall at that show.  And here’s its playlist!

This is a pre-recorded episode enabling us to go see Pauline Oliveros during our regular show time. If you get this early, you could still see her too!

I just got to interview her today, and I hope we can include some of that in our show sometime soon.

This episode’s cover is the Soprani Cardinal that Rowan found.

Hope you’re enjoying our lately faster podcasts. This is where we get to say, “Support ethical and unusual media by becoming a member of Co-op Radio,” because we love you.

Thanks for reading us here (and hopefully listening to us, there), but if you find you want more, you can always keep up with us on Twitter (@AccordionNoir and @AccordionBruce), Instagram (@AccordionNoirFest), and Facebook at Accordion Noir fansthe Accordion Noir Festival, and the Vancouver Squeezebox Circle. Cheers & squeeze on!
