This week, Accordion Noir Radio had a focus on a local accordion festival. But oh no, it’s not entirely what you think! You see, we’re not the only ones on the squeezy beat here in the Pacific Northwest. (We’re not even the only ones in BC, though there’s not huge overlap between our new wave angle and the other one’s old guard approach. But I digress.) While the 10th annual Accordion Noir Festival starts next week, the 2nd annual Port Townsend “Deep Squeeze” begins… tonight! We profiled both festivals, playing a great mix of participating acts. The first half shone the spotlight on the Deep Squeeze … we will have further opportunities to broadcast the virtues of Accordion Noir. (Indeed, we do so, weekly! And sometimes we sprawl… in fact, we hijacked another CFRO radio program just this morning for a bonus 90 minutes of self-promotion. You’ll be seeing it up here very soon.)  For a change, rather than talk about how great we are, we rebroadcast clips from a feature spot that had aired the previous day on CBC’s On The Coast, and let Andrea Warner and Gloria Macarenko do the gushing on our behalf.  Radio art!

Anyhow, you can enjoy that broadcast for a limited time as a digital audio stream, or for keeps as an MP3 download from the Internet Archive!  Now, before we get to the playlist, here’s the Deep Squeeze’s poster to soften you up and get you in the mood…

Thanks for reading us here (and hopefully listening to us, there), but if you find you want more, you can always keep up with us on Twitter (@AccordionNoir and @AccordionBruce), Instagram (@AccordionNoirFest), and Facebook at Accordion Noir fansthe Accordion Noir Festival (we’re really just at the cusp of it now, things are getting real!), and the Vancouver Squeezebox Circle. I’ll be playing with the Creaking Planks at the Trout Lake Farmers Market this Saturday to preach the gospel of the Accordion Noir Festival from 11:30 am to 2 pm, maybe you’ll consider joining us! With that said — cheers & squeeze on!
