Accordion Noir playlist 2017-09-01: taking over Sound Resistance for festival purposes

September 1, 2017

When Bruce came to Co-op Radio he needed to learn how to program and operate to equip himself with the skills needed to make Accordion Noir Radio happen.  Then, because every show needs two operators in the event of illness or absence, Rowan needed to get equipped with that training also.  But what we discovered is that training for one show was often transferable to other shows, and during an epoch of underemployment Rowan often held down the sound board on such CFRO programs as People’s Health Radio, Wax Poetic, No Apologies Necessary, and of course the Friday morning mainstay Sound Resistance, which he inherited from his bandeader Dr. Joey Only when he skipped down indefinitely.  Rowan’s guidelines were that Sound Resistance was for featuring political, Canadian, folk music … or best two outta three.  But once a year, when the Accordion Noir Festival rolled around, he would remember his first fundamental radio fealty, and bend the rules to grant his pet project some prime-time airwaves so as to more effectively conduct Accordion Noir Fest outreach to new, unconquered audiences.  Rowan’s successor, Jodi, was out of town this week, so Bruce took over — and redecorated the place with an accordion theme!  (Not at first, though.  Bruce told Rowan: I’m back in town!  I’ve made a great playlist of anti-Trump and flood songs for tomorrow morning!  Rowan sez: great, anything to promote our festival? Bruce: … hold on, I need to revise it a little bit.)  It’s not all Accordion Noir Fest music — though quite a bit of it is.  It’s not all political — though much of it is.  It’s not all accordion… but mostly it is.  The two shows partially meld into each others’ formats, as they are after all on the same wavelength.

Enough ancient history!  Here, for a limited time you can enjoy listening to … a portion of the 90-minute program as a digital audio stream, or you can get the whole whang dang doodle as a downloadable MP3.  Now here’s the playlist of this unlikely (yet strangely inevitable) radio chimera:
