Accordion Noir radio playlist 2007-08-31: Giddy Good Show

August 28, 2017

Here’s what we were broadcasting ten years ago: it’s episode number 39 of Accordion Noir Classic, from way back on August 31st, 2007!  Did it include CJ Chenier, Clifton’s son, in the playlist?  No, it did not.  Did Bruce associate this image with the recording for aspirational reasons?  Sure, why not — CJ cuts a fine figure with his boogie suit and its critical accessory!  At its original online home the episode was tracked as having logged 22804 listens to online listeners … while the numbers are quite frankly a bit hard to believe, there you have it.  And here: have it!  We’re still offering it up online for the enjoyment of future generations (and indeed, future civilizations) of accordion enthusiasts — you can download it as an MP3 here and to sweeten the pot, here’s its playlist so you can learn about what you’re hearing!

translation: “why stand you there shaking, skinny little rowan? bowing your head and quaking to the veryground. out across the road, over the wide, wide river, likewise solitary, an oak tree stands there lonely. how can that poor rowan get over to the oak tree? then she would stop her shaking, bowing her head and quaking. with her skinny branches she would embrace him. and with all her folliage, day and night she’d whisper. but there is no way for the rowan to get to the oak tree. knowing her fate is such that for a century she’ll be lonely. that poor orphan knowing for a century she’ll be lonely……….”
    it’s a very old song.
