Accordion Noir Radio playlist 2017-08-02: Gunther Kablutsiak tribute

August 4, 2017

Last year, at the 9th annual Accordion Noir Festival, we presented Gunther Kablutsiak from Arviat, Nunavut, performing with Metis dance troupe V’ni Dansi and a band of crack pinch hitters as part of our Saturday night headliner program with San Antonio’s Pinata Protest, Dirty Grace, the Duo Finelli and Jack Garton’s Demon Squadron album launch. Just prior to the festival we hosted him live on Accordion Noir Radio, and following an appearance on the (somewhat wider-reaching) CBC Radio in promotion of the festival (Inuk accordionist carries on proud community tradition, Meet Gunther Kablutsiak, an accordionist from Nunavut), he not only got the word out… he also set himself up to be the recipient of a buttonbox sent back to his community in Nunavut from a local listener! (Beloved accordion finds new home — 2205 kilometres away)

We hoped that he had a blast enjoying his trip to Vancouver and looked forward to what the next chapter would hold!  But this week we were shocked to learn that the whole book has just come to a close:
