Accordion Noir Radio playlist 2017-07-19: Emergency Backup Show

Our parent radio station, CFRO Co-Op Radio, is moving!  It’s complicated, since the location to which it is moving is its previous home… it had temporarily relocated during extensive renovations on the building (to a site just down the block from my former place of residence, just after I’d moved out of years living there!), and now, a few mere years later, it’s all getting re-wired back in where it had previously been installed to begin with.  Long story short, no one can do any live shows, so the station delivers up a few days of totally canned (pre-recorded) programming.  Rowan came up with this eclectic mix, and it only took him about six months longer than he intended it to!  You can enjoy a digital audio stream of the show or you can download an MP3 for permanent safekeeping and offline enjoyment.  To help you grasp at understanding the amazing strangeness you’re hearing, here’s the show’s playlist:

John Black: Accordion (entirely concerned with Accordion, none played.  Go figure.)
Creaking Planks, after Andy Fielding: Accordion Noir theme song

Zion.T (Korea): Miss Kim
Martin White (UK): Army of Me
Bjork: Pearl (feat. Tanya Tagaq.)  OK, that isn’t accordion you’re hearing, it’s shō, kid sister to the sheng, ancestral Chinese free reed.

Counting Crows: Omaha
Jewel: Intuition
Toad the Wet Sprocket: Walk on the Ocean
PJ Harvey: Send His Love To Me

Kendalin (Portland): Swinging the Lamp (you got me, that’s not accordion, it’s just harmonium… low in the mix!)
Vladimirska (Poland): Castle on the Hill
the Pogues (Ireland): London Calling

Dave Edmunds: Bail You Out
The Hooters: Karla with a K
Anne Sofie von Otter: Broken Bicycles / Junk
Oingo Boingo: We Close Our Eyes

We should be back live on the air next Wednesday, supposing we’re able to get the necessary orientation for use of the new/old site, and we can see about making a proper memorial for Regis Gizavo.

Until then: thanks for reading us here (and hopefully listening to us, there), but if you find you want more, you can always keep up with us on Twitter (@AccordionNoir and @AccordionBruce), Instagram (@AccordionNoirFest), and Facebook at Accordion Noir fans, the Accordion Noir Festival, and the Vancouver Squeezebox Circle. Cheers & squeeze on!
