Greetings, retro-accordion-fans!  (Unlike most accordion organizations, being “retro” isn’t explicitly part of our mandate — at the time, much of what we aired was cutting edge… but this recording is ten years old now!  But I get ahead of myself.)  Today’s exhibit from the fabulous Accordion Noir Radio back archives is our 24th episode from way back on May 11th of 2007.  We don’t like to talk about it on the air — meaning that this pair of muck disturbers are falling over themselves to do so — but once or twice a year we run episodes to represent our “best self” to SOCAN, a Canadian organization that measures how much Canadian music we are airing (as we are legally required to do under the terms of our radio station’s license!) and calculates what kinds of royalty payments (from a giant slush fund administered by them that you pay into every time you buy blank media — that’s the surprise $25 surcharge on that spindle of blank CDs!) should be allocated to whom.  So every time we have a SOCAN special, it’s basically our opportunity to ensure that our friends get paid.  (But do we get paid?  Please.  Here in Vancouver, the Payolas are just an old rock band from the ’80s.)

Now, having gotten them paid for their creative work, we are falling all over ourselves — we do that a lot — to give it away here for free!  But the assumption is that none of you are so hard-up that you’d pore over a digest radio episode recording just waiting for the brief moment when your target song appears, then crop everything else out… instead of simply buying the single on iTunes.  Surgically excising songs is too much like work!  Anyhow, we weren’t excessively successful at giving away someone else’s music for free — at its original online home the episode was downloaded some 3830 over ten years (which translates to … an average of slightly over one transfer per day every day for ten years!) and we hope that accordion fans of the present and future continue enjoying MP3 download of this Accordion Noir episode courtesy of its new hosting over at the Internet Archive.  Now, to enhance your enjoyment of the recording, here’s its playlist!
