Lost Bayou Ramblers, Traditional Punk Rock Cajuns, not Epcot

Louis and Andre from the Lost Bayou Ramblers, (from Naked New Orleans.)

Had my mind blown this weekend at the Vancouver Folk Festival by the Lost Bayou Ramblers.  Cajun country/punk/rock (whatever that means) band from Louisiana.  Andree Michot played rough with a little one-row button box going through effects and such. Noisy. All in Cajun French that sounds like it’s channelling energy from the old singers in the 1930s-40s. Very fun, and reaching a new generation of Cajun kids who might have trickled away from the music.  Guitarist Cavan Carruth said they didn’t want Cajun music to become “like Epcot.” They seem to be doing a good job of it.

We played this one on Accordion Noir last night.

I totally want their Vermillionair album:

Vermillionaire album cover by Lost Bayou Rambers. Image of accordionist done in modelling clay, I want to see it animated.

I hope they did an animated video based on this cover.  Clay-mation accordion has not been exploited enough.
