6th Annual Accordion Noir Festival, Sept 12-15 (this weekend!)

Yes, for the sixth year the Accordion Noir Festival will be this coming weekend in Vancouver, BC, Canada.  If you’re nearby, you should come!  If you’re far away, I hope you made travel plans to be nearby.

Here is the radio announcement for the Festival (click to listen at Co-op Radio’s site.)  Next year we should make a little youtube video slideshow thing.  That’d be fun.

Highlights include Quebecois jazz accordionist Steve Normandin, aggressive cabaret music with Fang and the Company B Singers (think Boswell Singers harmonies, yowza!), and Jack Gardon (from Maria in the Shower)’s new project the Jack of Hearts!

All in all, quite a different item then the recent and amazing Accordion World Cup over in Victoria.  The only competition here will be the Underdog Instrument Grudge Match, where accordions go head-to-head with theremins and a high-school band class-reunion.  It is the highlight of my accordion year (really).  I hope to see you all there.

The accordion-repair workshop earlier on Sunday is also a rare chance to get inside your (or someone’s) instrument and see what’s going on in there, very cool.

Wednesday, September 11th

• 10:30 am – noon: festival preview redux on Sound Resistance, live on the radio at 100.5 fm or streaming at coopradio.org
• 7 pm: 40 min in-store performance by David P. Smith at Red Cat Records, 4332 Main Street. Free.
• 8 pm: Accordion Dance Party with Fang featuring Company B Singers, the VaudeVille Vagabonds, and the Legion of Flying Monkeys Horn Orchestra. $12, Event on Facebook, Online advance ticket orders.

Saturday, September 14th
